I found this incredibly cute animation by the artist Tommy LM. For it he interviewed 11 year old art students about, well, art. I love what one of the boys says; "I believe art is a picture of time". There is so much truth to that; especially when it comes to photography. Check out the video here, and be sure to check out the artist's website in support!

The Importance of Photography
It's times like these, where everyone from your local plumber that has been in business for 80 years to your major retail chains are going under, that make you sit and ask the question; "why do I do what I do?" Where does a photographer fit in to the equation when even common necessitates, such as plumbing, are being put on the back burner? Quiet often hiring a photographer ranks up their with a day at the spa or a night at the symphony; luxuries that aren't seen as necessary. Ironically though, at the end of life, its often the photographs and accompanying memories that have the most meaning. I have heard so many times that when your house catches on fire the first thing you go for, besides family and pets, are the family photographs. They are a piece of the family, a moment, a memory. They are a record of where you came from, where you have been and perhaps, where you are going.
A picture is worth a thousand words; and no matter how many times you try to explain the moment it will never have the impact that it does in a single, priceless, photograph. That is why I do what I do.

Backyard Buddy
I was working outside for a bit today; tearing out some cinderblock from the side of the garage so that we can install a window. As I was picking up the pieces from the ground this lizard came running up onto my glove. About 20 minutes later I finally decided to grab my camera as he was still happily sitting there. From head to tale the lizard was only about four or five inches. Thanks for looking!

Terra and Darren
Whats worth getting up at 6:00am for? A drive across the state and a day with a couple of wonderfully fun people. Although they are not engaged, yet, you can tell by the way they are together that there is a special connection. These photographs were taken at a pull-out near the Salt River Canyon. If you haven't been there, is is well worth the trip from Tucson. As always; thank you for looking!

"The Little Snow that Could"
Every couple of years I hear we get snow in Tucson. Last Tuesday looked like it was going to be one of those rare treats. I woke up just before dawn, turned on the news, and from the way they were talking you would have thought it was a blizzard. I always have to laugh when I watch when I watch the weather here through because anything remotely cold is always overly dramatic! To make a long story short; I only found traces of snow after climbing up a mountain. Although I didn't see much for snow; I was still able to enjoy a beautiful desert morning. Thanks for looking!

A Weekend Away
This past weekend was spent out in the Santa Rita foothills with a couple of good friends. I didn't really realize how much I needed to get out and have a change of pace until I was there; and now that I am home I find I want to go back. Life is so much simpler when you don't have paperwork, filing, investments, taxes, etc. Despite being out in the beautiful wilderness, as a portrait photographer I can't help but photograph people. To me it adds an invaluable personal touch to the landscape; the "I could be there" feeling. Thanks for looking!

I love large images, and this is definitely one of those images that demands to be big. The blog does not do it justice.
